Isuzu’s presence in India is a curious mix of heritage and niche positioning. Long before the MU-X, Isuzu engines were quietly powering some of India’s most iconic cars. Pahel Deshmukh

The 1.9L diesel engine is decent but lacks the punch of the Fortuner's 2.8L. The 6-speed torque converter feels sluggish under sudden throttle. Lacks modern ADAS features like adaptive cruise control. The cabin lacks the sense of occasion you get inside rival SUVs. A capable off-roader but feels outdated in 2025.

Shankar Parmar

The plastic quality as well as fit and finish inside the SUV could have been better. Misses out on features like auto headlights and wipers that make it feel pared down compared to pricier rivals. Low resale value in secondary market due to limited brand recognition. Not worth the ₹35-37 lakh price tag.

Yudhishthira Gyan

Very solid and very responsive – I've driven a little above 20,000 km in 1.5 years. The Isuzu engine can lug around the city at 1000 rpm. It doesn't roll back on most inclines as the torque at such low rpm is sufficient. The high-set cabin offers a great view out.

Manorama Tirth

Heavy steering makes it not exciting to drive. The tyres are very capable off-road with a nice ride quality, but the steering is a letdown. The interior is very simple and lacks the premium feel of rivals. Average mileage if driven mostly in city traffic.

Aman Saraswat

For family travels, the MU-X has been an amazing choice. Navigating mountainous terrain is best suited for this SUV because of its 4WD capability and strong engine. Long trips are a pleasure in the roomy and opulent interiors. The innovative technologies and cozy interiors made our Manali trip unforgettable.

Mabrouk Zaidi

The engine is decent and the driving experience is very good. Gives good safety and is a very solid car. But at this price it's very pricey compared to rivals. The interior is very simple and doesn't feel premium. Basic 7-inch touchscreen lacks wireless Android Auto.

Thaman Desai

The MU-X had better 2nd and 3rd row comfort compared to the Gloster and Fortuner. Enough boot space to keep kits with all three rows up. Very good ride comfort. Nobody else gave a comprehensive demo of every safety feature like Isuzu did. A proper 4WD SUV that climbed a 50-degree incline like it was nothing.

Durga Reddy

Very poor customer support from Isuzu and limited service network. No service in Himachal Pradesh – this is a major concern for highway travelers. Good to drive but suspension isn't great in hilly terrain. After-sales support needs serious improvement.

Joseph Harris

Built like a tank, safe and sturdy for highway driving. Have done 1,93,456 km with no major issues – incredible reliability. The car is a bit old-fashioned but rides beautifully. The 4x4 system with shift-on-the-fly makes off-roading effortless. Steering is heavy, making parking in tight spots a challenge.

Walter Hill

The ride is fantastic at low speeds with good ground clearance, but it gets crashy and bouncy as you go faster. Lots of body roll around corners, and the heavy steering doesn't help. The interior feels outdated and doesn't justify the high price tag. Feels more utilitarian than premium.

ISUZU MU-X FAQs

The MU-X comes with a 1.9-litre diesel engine (Ddi), producing about 161 bhp and 360 Nm of torque. It is available with both 4x2 and 4x4 versions. The 4x4 version has a “shift-on-the-fly” dial for engaging high and low ranges, which means you can go from city roads to muddy off-road without needing to stop and crawl under the car.

The Isuzu MU-X measures about 4,825 mm in length, 1,860 mm in width, and 1,860 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,845 mm. The ground clearance is a strong 230 mm unladen, giving it serious capability over speed breakers, inclines, and rough terrain.

MU-X is a 7-seater. Behind the third row, boot space is 235 litres, enough for essentials. If you fold the third row, the cargo area expands

ARAI-claimed mileage is about 13 kmpl for its diesel automatic version. Assuming diesel price ≈ ₹90 per litre (or your local rate), running cost per km = 90 ÷ 13 = ≈ ₹6.90 per km.

MU-X comes with a suite of safety goodies: six airbags, ABS + EBD, traction control, electronic stability control, hill descent control, and steel underbody protection. For comfort, it has leather upholstery, automatic climate control, one-touch split fold for rear seats, good infotainment, strong interior space. If you're going off the beaten track, comfort and safety both matter — MU-X delivers.

Buy MU-X if you want real off-road presence without paying Fortuner / Hilux prices, need 7 seats, ride beyond tarmac, strong build, and don’t mind higher ownership cost. Skip it if your drives are mostly urban and fuel economy + handling are your top priority, or if you don’t have access to good service and parts in your region.
